Confidence should be boosted in European markets, given the fact that the vote passed by a large majority, namely 523 in favor to 85 against.

A number of European countries must ratify the Expansion of the European Financial Stability Facility – Europe’s bailout fund – in order to increase its capacity from 250 billion euros to 440 billion euros.

Austria and Finland had also voted in favor of the bailout fund earlier this week.

However, as Chancellor Angela Merkel is a key figure trying to pull the bloc out of the crisis, and while Germany represents the eurozone’s biggest economy, the vote in Germany’s lower house of parliament, the Bundestag was as crucial.

The fund will be allowed by the new powers to buy sovereign bonds in the capital markets, thing which is bound to prop up debt prices and help countries in the eurozone fund themselves.
