British singer Amy Winehouse who died on Jul, 23, was planning the adoption of a 10-year-old girl named Dannika Augustine from Saint Lucia Island, located in eastern Caribbean Sea, where the artist had spent a lot of time in the past years.
During the period she spent in Saint Lucia, Amy Winehouse got really close to the girl and her family who were struggling with poverty issues, femalefirst.co.uk informs.
“Amy was already my mother. I called her mommy and she called me her daughter. She took care of me and we had a great time together. I loved her and she loved me. She was the most amazing person and I couldn’t wait to move to London with her. I can’t believe she’s not here anymore. It’s the saddest thing ever happened to me”, Dannika Augustine declared.
Marjorie Lambert, the girl’s grandmother, who owns a bar on the beach near the mansion where Amy used to stay, declared for the press: “Amy loved Dannika from all her heart. I don’t know why Amy got close to Dannika, but from the moment they met, they were inseparable. They were spending all day together, playing, horse riding or walking on the beach holding hands”.
“Amy told me: I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her with me in England. She was ready to move to Saint Lucia to be her mother. Amy wanted a child badly. She would have never done what she did if she had had Dannika on her side”, Marjorie Lambert declared.
Marjorie added that Nadia Germaine, Dannika’s mother wanted to let Amy adopt her daughter as she could not afford to bring her up by herself. The girl’s father, Vic Augustine, who lives in Germany, was also consulted.
“Amy called me from my mother’s mobile phone. She told me: Hello, Marjorie’s great son. I want to talk to you because I feel like you are my brother. Marjorie is like a mother to me. Then she said: I love Dannika a lot. She’s an extraordinary girl. I thanked Amy for taking care of my daughter and she told me: Dannika takes care of me. I couldn’t live without her. I’d like to ask the permission to adopt her. I told her that I agreed if my mother thought it was a good idea. I also talked with the girl’s mother and she told me that she agreed too”, Vic Augustine declared.
Marjorie talked with Amy for the last time many weeks ago when the artist was considering to visit Saint Lucia. “Amy seemed weakened and depressed. She asked me how I was doing and then told me: Announce everybody that I’m coming back to Saint Lucia soon”, Lambert told the reporters.
“I was waiting for her to come. I could not believe when a London friend told me that she had died. Amy was a very good person. She wanted to help everybody. I know she had her problems, but in Saint Lucia she was a better person that people from Great Britain thought. She was never drugged. She was normal here. I never worried about Dannika when she was with Amy”, the girl’s grandmother declared.
27-year-old British singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment on July, 23. Amy Winehouse was cremated last Tuesday at Golders Green in northern London, right after the ceremony. Only close friends and family attended the funeral.
