Food poisoning in China’s schools

Over the past week there were reported five separate incidents in which almost 300 Chinese primary and middle school students have been sickened by faulty food or water coming from their schools.

The start of the new school year coincides with the rash of food poisoning cases.

According to the official Xinhua News Agency, the latest case occures on Wednesday in Shadong province, affecting no less than 86 primary school pupils. The children became ill after eating lunch.

It was also said that 10 children remained under observation in hospitals as they were having a bad health condition, while authorities were testing the school’s food in search for wrong practices or old food.

In the past week four other cases have been reported in Hebei and Jiangxi, where 205 children were affected by the food in their schools.
